The portrait of Adam Mikołaj Sieniawski (1666–1726), Great Hetman of the Crown, belongs to a group of 15 portraits which are traditionally believed to have been acquired by Stanisław August in 1764 from Kasper Lubomirski, together with the Ujazdów estate (for the series, see cat. no. 48). … Sieniawski was related to the Lubomirskis through his marriage in 1687 to Elżbieta, the daughter of Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski; from 1720 Elżbieta was the owner of Wilanów. …
Sieniawski was a supporter of August II. He was appointed Field Hetman in 1702, and Great Hetman of the Crown in 1706. He was one of the most important leaders of the Sandomierz Confederation which was formed in defence of August II as the legally elected Polish King. …
