One of a pair of still lifes [See Still Life with Grapes, Wine Glass and a Crab, cat. no. 33] in the catalogues of the Stanisław August collection; the author is given as ‘Wan Dynum’. …
A composition very similar to the Łazienki painting, signed G. Van. Deynum, believed to be an autograph version, is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Orléans … . Two versions are also known, signed falsely with the name Jan Davidsz. de Heem, of whom van Deynum was a follower, and whose compositions he frequently copied. The first of these, in the RKD files defined as probably being the work of van Deynum, in 1945 was at the Parke-Bernet Galleries in New York … , while the second, attributed to van Deynum by Fred G. Meijer, once the property of the antiques dealer, Jacques Leegenhoek, in Paris, is now in a private collection … .
It is not a repetition of any painting by de Heem nor any fragment of his paintings, but a somewhat awkward compilation of motifs typical of the Dutch master. [See D. Juszczak, H. Małachowicz, The Stanisław August Collection of Paintings at the Royal Łazienki. Catalogue, Royal Łazienki Museum, Warsaw 2016, no. 34, pp. 147–148.]
