European mole
Talpa europaea
The mole belongs to insectivorous animals; it has extremely small eyes that probably do not even react to light. However, it has a well-developed sense of hearing and touch, which allow it to precisely locate earthworms and underground insects. The paws of the mole are extremely strong; they resemble toothed blades and are ideal for digging underground tunnels. It’s extremely cunning when it comes to hunting for earthworms; it cuts their ganglion to immobilise them. They’re still alive but they can’t move, so the mole builds a larder where it collects them.
