Common blackbird
Turdus merula
The common blackbird belongs to the thrushes and is a permanent resident of the Royal Łazienki. Sexual dimorphism is reflected by the colour of the birds – the male is black with a yellow beak, and the female is dark brown, inconspicuous. The common blackbird is a very good singer. Most often we can see it on the ground or on low branches, from where it sings loudly. The common blackbird is one of the first birds to be heard at dawn – the common blackbirds are at their posts even before the tits and the nuthatches are awake. In winter, they enjoy eating fruit.
