Common starling
Sturnus vulgaris
The starling is a bird known for forming huge flocks just after the breeding season. It often feeds on fields or orchards, causing significant losses. While at first glance the colouring of the startling seems black, when the sun shines on, one can notice the beautiful, glowing iridescent colours. A characteristic yellow beak and extremely rich repertoire of sounds are typical of that species. The starling can imitate the sounds of other birds. In the Łazienki gardens, they have specialized in imitating the singing of medium spotted woodpeckers. They inhabit tree hollows and nesting boxes.
