Fieldfare
Turdus pilaris
Similarly to the blackbird, the fieldfare is a bird belonging to the thrushes family. More and more individuals don’t leave for winter and stay in our gardens. These birds occur most frequently in early spring when in large groups they walk along the lawns, every now and then pulling earthworms out of the ground. The bird’s head is of a very nice, ashen colour, and its breast is yellowish and striped. It builds nests high on trees, often in the company of other pairs of fieldfares with which it bravely faces attacks of corvids.
