Indian peafowl
Pavo cristatus
The peafowl is one of the most recognizable animals in the Łazienki gardens. Its biological parentage originates from the Indian Peninsula, but it has adapted to life in Poland very well; it is a frequent resident of historical gardens and parks, as well as a breeding bird. In the Łazienki gardens visitors can see both specimens of the typical colour and white colour. In peafowls, white colours a recessive trait, which is determined by the w gene (white); this must not be confused with albinism.
