Southern catalpa
Catalpa bignonioides
Catalpa originates from the south-east lands of North America. It is characterized by very large heart-shaped leaves and fruits resembling a bag, similar to asparagus beans pods that remain in the tree throughout winter. The attractive flowers of the catalpa, resembling orchids, are melliferous and attract a lot of pollinators. And their smell deter mosquitoes. The catalpa is a tree that is resistant to air pollution and it therefore adapts well in cities.
