Common oak
Quercus robur
Oaks are some of the most valued trees. They can live up to 1,000 years and their habit is very massive because strong boughs spread sideways to form a robust crown. Common oak is characterized by acorns measuring even a few centimetres in length and located on long stems. In the botanical nomenclature, the acorns’ ‘hats’ are cupules. Thanks to its high-quality wood, oak is valued in the furniture industry and its century-long rich symbolism is owed to its size and durability.
