Honey locust
Gleditsia triacanthos
The name of gleditsia comes from the name of Johann Gottlieb Gleditsch, a 18th-century German botanist. In contrast, triacanthos refers to three-part thorns, which grow on the trunk and branches of certain types of gleditsia. This species is characterized by long, twisted multi-seeded pods that remain in the tree after leaves have fallen of it in autumn.
