Small-leaved lime
Tilia cordata
The lime produces a lot of nectar and it is very much appreciated by bees and aphids. The presence of the latter attracts ladybirds as they feed on the aphids. All stages of the development of these insects can be observed on the lime tree. The flowers of the lime are a traditional diaphoretic beverage used in colds. They used to appear on the tree in July, giving the name to this month. At present, lime trees bloom as early as in June.
