Red horse chestnut
Aesculus xcarnea
The red horse chestnut was formed accidentally by the merger of two chestnut species: the horse chestnut and the red buckeye. It is smaller than the horse chestnut which is so popular here, it flourishes red, slightly later than the horse chestnut and is more sensitive to frost. Its fruits are almost free of spikes.
