Douglas fir
Pseudotsuga taxifolia
The douglas fir naturally grows in the Rocky Mountains. Its name comes from the surname of a Scottish forester, who discovered the species in the 19th century and brought it to Europe. The douglas fir is one of the highest trees in the world; it can reach over 100 metres in height. The cones of this species have distinctive trident husks that protrude from the seed husks.
