Common brimstone
Gonepteryx rhamni
The brimstone is a butterfly which is recognizable for many visitors to the Royal Łazienki gardens. All the more because it is one of the butterflies we see in spring. Adult specimens winter in the fallen leaves and start their activity in the first warmer days. The species is characterised by sexual dimorphism – males are bright yellow-green and females, which wake up slightly later, have brighter colours. The larvae of this species feed on an alder buckthorn or buckthorn.
