Spinycheek crayfish
Orconectes limosus
The spinycheek crayfish is an invasive species of crayfish. Nowadays, it is present in almost all water reservoirs in Poland. It carries the crayfish plague, to which it is rather resistant, unlike our native species of crayfish, for which the disease is fatal. It is not a threat to humans and other animals. The spinycheek is small and not tasty. It was discovered in the Łazienki ponds in the course of ichthyological research studies conducted in 2019.
