Director of the Royal Łazienki decorated by the president of Hungary
The Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order was awarded by the President of the Hungarian Republic, János Áder, to Professor Zbigniew Wawer, Director of the Royal Łazienki Museum
The awarding ceremony took place on 6 December 2019 at the Embassy of Hungary. Professor Zbigniew Wawer received the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order from Orsolya Zsuzsanna Kovács, ambassador of Hungary to Poland. It was granted by President János Áder "in recognition of effort in presenting and promoting in Poland the Hungarian history and Polish-Hungarian historical relations and cultivation of friendship between the two nations".
The Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order is a high rank state medal which is awarded to both Hungarians and foreigners for, among other things, achievements in the promotion of Hungarian culture and cooperation with Hungary.
This year, the Royal Łazienki Museum displayed the exhibition "Common History of Brother Nations. Unique Exhibits from the Budapest Collections", which bore testimony to nearly 1000-year long Polish-Hungarian relations. The invaluable exhibits came from the most prominent Hungarian institutions, including the Hungarian National Museum, the Hungarian National Archive and the Institute and Museum of Military History by the Ministry of Defence in Budapest. The exhibition was accompanied by an international conference on Polish-Hungarian relations. The Royal Łazienki Museum hosted Polish and Hungarian researchers who offered an insight into the history of relations between the two countries, starting from the Jagiellonian times. In connection with the exhibition "Common History of Brother Nations. Unique Exhibits from the Budapest Collections", a catalogue was produced featuring Hungarian national collections. The catalogue published by the Royal Łazienki Museum was designed in cooperation with the Embassy of Hungary and the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Warsaw.
