Aleksander Kamiński (1903-1978)
Widely known as the author of the book Kamienie na szaniec. (Stones for the Rampart) published in 1943 by the underground press.
He was an educationalist, activist of the Scout Movement, creator of the Formations of ‘Zuchy’ (cub scouts) and ‘Szare Szeregi’ (Gray Ranks), and a soldier of the Home Army. He was born in Warsaw. He studied History and Archaeology at the University of Warsaw. He was one of the key members of the Polish Scouting Association. During World War II, he was one of the organisers of the Grey Ranks. After the war, he was the vice-President of the Polish Scouting Association and President of the Superior Scouting Council.
He worked as a lecturer in the Department of Pedagogy at the University of Łódź, and in 1947 completed his PhD in Philosophy. In 1969, he was appointed Professor. He died in Warsaw.
His bust stands in the Łazienki gardens near the Temple of Sybil.
