Marie-Thérèse Geoffrin (1699-1777)
The Paris maman of the last King
King Stanisław August’s ties with France constitute a considerable part of his biography. They were apparent in various moments of his life, but the deciding event of his life connected with France was his visit to Paris in 1753 – still as a ruler-to-be. That was where he became acquainted with Madame Geoffrin, who – for the duration of his stay – was his guide of the upper-class societies in France, and became his foreign correspondent after his ascension of the throne.
