You are invited on 18 February 2017 for the Winter Evening of Light, during which the Royal Łazienki will showcase a splendid illumination. The evening stroll with lanterns through the historic gardens will end with a climatic concert in front of the Palace on the Isle. Participation in the event is free.
The Winter Evening of Light – an event organised as part of the "Gardens of Light" international project – will be held for the fifth time. It is the only opportunity to walk through the historic gardens of Łazienki and see how the magically illuminated buildings and surrounding trees of the summer residence of King Stanisław emerge from darkness.
We start at 7 p.m.
The Winter Evening of Light will start at 7 p.m. at the beginning of each of the trails which will lead the strollers through the illuminated gardens to the terrace in front of the Palace on the Isle where a final concert will take place. Every visitor can choose a trail for them.
The red lanterns trail will begin at the entrance gate to the Royal Łazienki from the side of Gagarina street. Then, it will continue along the Modernist Garden, near the Amphitheatre, through the so-called Italian Garden to reach the Palace on the Isle. The green lanterns trail will begin near the Hermitage and follow through the Chinese Garden. The blue lanterns trail will begin at the entrance to the park near the Monument to Chopin (from Al. Ujazdowskie avenue). Then, it will run along the Romantic Garden and further – along the Royal Promenade – to the Palace on the Isle.
Buy the lanterns
At the starting point of each of the trails, there will be stands where lanterns will be available from 5 p.m. for 10 zlotys a piece. You can buy them earlier too, i.e. from 16 February in the ticket offices of the Museum where you can also get a free pass to a selected building of the Royal Łazienki.
Final – the concert at 7:40 p.m.
Enjoy an unforgettable experience on the trail of your choice. You will have an opportunity to admire the specially designed illuminations of the buildings and gardens, to listen to our educators and take a photograph with actors dressed in 18th c. costumes. Live music performed on percussion instruments will be yet another attraction.
Also, hot tea will be served to the participants of the event at the stands by the Royal Promenade.
At 7:40 p.m., on the terrace of the Palace on the Isle, the great final will begin – a concert by The New Brass Trio composed of: Przemysław Skałuba (tenor saxophone), Damian Marat (trumpet) and Wojciech Baranek (tuba). The musicians will perform some most popular pieces, including compositions by Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Handel. The concert will last 30 minutes.
International event
On 18 February 2017, the Winter Evening of Light event will also be organised in the residences which together with the Royal Łazienki form the ‘Gardens of Light’ project. These are: The Prince Pückler Park in Bad Muskau in Germany, the Tsarskoye Selo Museum in Saint Petersburg in Russia, the Prince Kung’s Mansion in Beijing in China, the Château de Lunéville in France, and the Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød in Denmark. During the Winter Evening of Light, films will be shown on the terrace in front of the Palace on the Isle to introduce the history of the residences to the strollers.
