2nd Festival of Baroque Opera in the Royal Theatre
Our visitors are invited to the 2nd Festival of Baroque Operas Dramma per Musica, which will begin on 2 September in the Royal Łazienki. The programme will include operas, a vocal and dance performance as well as chamber concerts. Our guests will have a chance to see, among others, Handel’s Orlando, and the unjustly forgotten work by Leonardo Vinci – Semiramide riconosciuta.
The 2nd Festival of Baroque Operas Dramma per Musica will be inaugurated on 2 September in the Royal Theatre with the Sognando la morte (Dreaming About Death) show. It is a specially prepared project combining the art forms of dance and opera, which will be performed by Anna Radziejewska – an outstanding opera singer, and Jacek Tyski – dancer and choreographer working with the Polish National Ballet. The show will also be performed on 3 September.
A week later, in the Royal Theatre, for the first time in almost three hundred years, a world class performance of an opera by Leonardo Vinci, Semiramide riconosciuta will take place. This unjustly forgotten work of the Neapolitan composer has finally been given a stage version under the musical guidance of Marco Vitale, directed by Ewelina Pietrowiak. The performance will be given four times – on 9, 10, 12, and 13 September.
In addition, during the festival, concerts featuring Baroque vocal music will be held in the Palace on the Isle. The first one will be Amor è qual vento – a recital by Dagmara Barna, who captured the hearts of music lovers last year as Dorinda in Orlando. Next, the audience will listen to Il Giardino degli affetti (In the Garden of Affections) – a chamber concert performed by four soloists with four different voice types and the Gradus ad Parnassum band, after which Aleksandra Zamojska will perform a recital of Lamenti Amorosi (Love Lamentations), which will feature Early Baroque tones.
The festival will be concluded by Handel's Orlando, whose Polish preview showing took place last year in the Royal Theatre. The opera will be performed on 17 and 18 September.
