Bells for summoning staff were traditionally made of silver or other metals. After the discovery of the porcelain formula at the Saxon court, Meissen became the first manufactory to produce them in porcelain. These bells played an important role in palace life, enabling communication with servants while maintaining the social distance valued by the aristocracy. Made of snow-white porcelain and decorated with flowers and embossed braiding, they were also luxurious everyday accessories.
