The Royal Łazienki Palace complex and park is an enchanting place in the centre of Warsaw that is associated with historic gardens, neoclassical architecture and Chopin concerts.
The Royal Łazienki has had an important role in Polish history since the seventeenth century. It has been the property of Herakliusz Lubomirski, King Augustus II the Strong, King Stanisław August, Prince Jozef Poniatowski and Tsars Alexander I and Nicholas I. Many prominent people have resided here, including Prince Louis, Count of Provence, the future King Louis XVIII of France, and Chief of State and First Marshal of Poland Józef Piłsudski.
The paintings, sculptures, prints and furnishings from the collections of Stanisław August are exhibited in the historic interiors of the Royal Łazienki Palace, while outstanding works from Polish and foreign museums can be admired at the many temporary exhibitions. Every year the gardens of the Royal Łazienki are visited by almost five million people.
This book offers an engaging insight into the history of the Royal Łazienki Museum and its extraordinarily rich and varied collection.
